Workshops at StoneSummit Studio
Holding
workshops in my studio has been a source of stimulation and motivation
for me. Each has been an adventure with new revelations. There is data
in pedagogy to prove that it is usually the teacher in any learning
situation who gains the most new knowledge. I hope that in my workshops
there is an even distribution of motivation and new ideas, but it
remains true that I value the teaching experience because it brings
innovation and newness to my own art practice. Also it is fun. Artists
often work in isolation, and group experiences are definitely an
enrichment. When I was first asked to present a workshop about making
collage, I thought, well, Iım a painter and printmaker and not a
collage-maker. Then I looked around my studio and noticed that collage
and mixed media are employed in some way in a large number of my works.
So I did the workshop and it made me much more aware of how my own
process happens and how it fits into the world of art-making through
history. Then I did a second workshop about seeing and drawing. More
will follow. I believe the participants each time were empowered in new
ways too, and I hope they will use those new techniques and ideas as a
way to expand meaning in their lives.
