Collage Workshop
Here are some scenes of the action at the recent Collage Workshop
guided by Suzette and held at StoneSummit Studio in BurgessWood,
near Perth.
Collage has had such a profound effect upon the world of art since
Picasso and Braque shocked everyone by gluing some tobacco labels and
wallpaper bits into their Cubist paintings. We thought we should connect to
the concept. Collage isnšt just a technique, it explores two questions
which are at the center of art today. Those are: what is the nature of
reality and what is the nature of painting itself.
So we went at it armed with newly-created textured papers we learned to
make using acrylic medium and several different base materials, some
Japanese foils and washi papers, fibers,
thin sheets of transparent mica from the local terrain,
and lots of collected
paraphernalia. Everyone seemed absorbed in the spirit of creation, as you
can see from these images. Wonderful energy!
An encore workshop is planned
for 2004. Stay tuned.
